What Happens During a Heart Health Check?

1. Medical History & Lifestyle Review

Your GP will ask about:

    • Your personal and family medical history (e.g. heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol)
    • Lifestyle habits such as smoking, alcohol use, diet, and physical activity

2. Physical Examination

This includes:

    • Blood pressure and pulse check
    • Weight measurement and possibly waist circumference

3. Blood Tests

You may be asked to have blood tests to check:

    • Cholesterol levels
    • Blood glucose levels (for diabetes risk)

4. Risk Assessment

Your GP will use the Australian Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Calculator to estimate your likelihood of having a heart attack or stroke in the next five years.

5. Personalised Management Plan

Based on your results, your doctor will develop a plan that may include:

    • Diet and lifestyle advice
    • Support to quit smoking or increase physical activity
    • Medication, if needed
